I think the move east in terms of Europe is limited. I think strategically it makes sense for Europe to move west. Lisbon and Madrid offer a gateway to the Emerging world of Latam and Africa plus langauage. America is not going to disappear anytime soon. But Spanish may begin to rival english as major US language in the decades to come.
Just downloaded the report and have to say that I have found the information very useful. Im sure it will make me think twice before relocating my office from Liverpool UK to say London or Amsterdam. What would interest me for future reports would be the standard of living – its all well and good to set up a business in the cities mentioned, but how is it actually like to live in those cities?
ECM 2010 seems to be a quite comprehensive survey. However who would think Leeds is mentioned while Rotterdam – largest harbour city in Northern hemisphere would not fit the survey. Consider external transport links or the use of fiber optics infrastucture.
Furthermore the study seems to have a change to improve its validation options by using cross referrences of other studies such as the periodic scientific study on ‘happiness’of the citizens of various European States. this should add to highlights to cities as Copenhaguen (I beleieve the danish were considered to experience a better ‘well being’ than other citizens. this would a a more intersubjective operator to the perceived quality of life of the focus group -apparently vaialability of sunshine isn’t everything- or at least be used as an extra weight to adjust the findings of the sample group now questioned.
Next year an estimate of future fiscal effects resulting from government deficits could also be a good added factor to make the contribution of governments to the business climate mid term.
this and other cross references would add to the value of the study.
